More than 200 high school
and technical school students and 25 instructors from
Illinois and Wisconsin, enjoyed a unique learning
experience when they participated in the annual Student
Day program at METALFORM’03 on Wednesday, March 25.
The
program began with an orientation session led by members
of PMA’s Training & Education and Quality
Committees. Participants learned a bit about the
metalforming industry and the career opportunities it
offers. Susan Nichol, manager of training at the Tooling
& Manufacturing Association in Chicago, added some
valuable local information. After the orientation, the
groups visited the show floor to see the industry in
action.
As a
follow-up to the program, a quiz has been placed in the Students
section on this PMAEF website. Instructors can use
the quiz to reinforce what the students learned at the
show.

A special opportunity for students, instructors, and parents to meet and talk with metalforming industry companies, explore career opportunities, and see the latest state-of-the-art equipment demonstrations.
METALFORM, sponsored annually by
PMA, is the premier exposition and symposium for the precision metal stamping and fabricating industries. Each year at
METALFORM, Student Day is a special opportunity for students, accompanied by their instructors, school administrators, parents, and other adult supervisors, to meet and talk with leading-edge exhibitors and see the latest state-of-the-art equipment demonstrations. More than 400 industry exhibitors display technology, information, and ideas, targeted for the metalforming industry.
Student participation begins with a short orientation by representatives of
PMA, the metalforming industry trade association, and its member companies. Participants view a video and receive literature describing career opportunities in the industry. Each instructor also receives a free
Student Ambassador Program, including the video and support literature, for use in promoting career opportunities back at the group's school. After the orientation, student groups are led to the show floor for a self-guided tour, directed by a list of designated "Student Friendly" exhibitors and others where "technology at work" is demonstrated.
Thank you for your continued efforts to educate Americas future workforce. The
METALFORM Louisville Show and Student Day will be March
30-April 1, 2004. Please contact
PMA if you would like to receive further information and an invitation for Student Day.
